It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
