Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former coach his previous coach.
Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since spring of that year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.
The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an better service.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, took control to create a third set.
Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
